Essay content issues

It’s critically important to create a clear picture of your role in Essays 1 and 2, and to develop that role in Essay 3.

Essay 1

This essay requires you to define an obstacle, explain the issues, and show the benefits of overcoming it.

Essay 2

Choose a leadership experience which you can define clearly. This essay is a demand for values, demonstrating your expertise in leadership.

Essay 3

Part 1: Identify your career/role as a functional role and/or career position. This shows your aspirations in practical terms.

Part 2: This question requires you to deliver your Kellogg MBA essay in context with career goals. It’s more than “why”, it’s “how”, as well, using the MBA as a career asset.

Use your word allowances effectively:

  • Systematically eliminate extraneous information.
  • Avoid obscure jargon.
  • Deliver an effective, easily understood message to your reader.

Essay 1

My greatest professional obstacle was a serious misconception of my career path. I was in a highly specialized role as a data analyst, working with market demographics. I discovered that my specialist role was a major restriction on future career development in a management role outside analytics.

Essay 2

My most successful leadership experiences related to practical client relations management and corporate business management. The CRM issues required tough mediation, research, and extensive problem-solving. The business issues involved identification of emerging problems and creating working solutions.

Essay 3

Part 1:

My career goal is to become CEO of a major corporation in the aerospace industry. My involvement in the aerospace industry is based on a love of aeronautical engineering, and all aspects of flight design. I’m a licensed pilot with 400 hours of flight time and am currently engaged in an advanced research project at Lockheed.

Part 2:

The Kellogg MBA offers a full spectrum of high critical values to my career aspirations. The core curriculum for the Two Year course includes multiple areas of advanced study and practical experience which relate directly to my current and hopefully my future roles in aerospace industry management, as follows….
